Jacob began his legal career as a collections and real estate paralegal at Hoover Penrod PLC in 1998. While in law school, he interned with the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund in Washington, D.C. (through the Oliver White Hill Foundation), and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in Richmond, Virginia. After law school, Jacob clerked for Judges Jim Lane and John McGrath of the Rockingham County Circuit Court. He has been in private practice with Hoover Penrod PLC since 2004.
Jacob represents businesses and individuals in a wide array of civil matters. He is an experienced litigator, successfully representing clients in commercial disputes, real estate disputes, construction and mechanic’s lien disputes, personal injury matters, insurance disputes, landlord-tenant disputes and an assortment of other matters. A significant portion of his practice entails assisting banking institutions and other commercial clients with collection matters. He is seasoned in collection law and has recovered millions of dollars for banks, commercial clients and individuals. He is admitted to practice in the bankruptcy courts of the Western District of Virginia. Jacob also regularly represents clients in transactional matters. He frequently handles residential and commercial real estate closings and drafts and reviews purchase contracts, loan documents, and leases. He provides ongoing counsel to businesses and organizations, from forming them and drafting their governing documents, to winding them down and selling their assets. As the worlds of transactional law, debt collection and litigation frequently intersect, Jacob’s breadth of experience in these areas provides him with unique insight when it comes to preventing and resolving problems for his clients.
